Mr. Freshman founded and was the managing partner of the law firm Freshman, Marantz, Orlanski, Cooper & Klein, which is now the Los Angeles office of K&L Gates. Mr. Freshman is also an acknowledged expert on real estate investment and syndication. He has served as Adjunct Professor of Real Estate at the USC Marshall School of Business, and as an expert witness in over eighty cases. In addition, Mr. Freshman is the author of numerous articles on real estate matters. His book, Principles of Real Estate Syndication, is the bible on the subject. He is Chairman Emeritus of Stanford Professionals in Real Estate (SPIRE—www.spirestanford.org—a global organization composed of Stanford University alumni working in the real estate industry). Mr. Freshman received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University and his law degree from the Stanford Law School.
Although Sam is now retired, our management team continues to implement Sam’s emphasis on careful underwriting, low leverage, market demographic analysis, and investor capital preservation and appreciation.
Michael oversees the major operational and financial components of our company. Before joining us, Michael was with StarPoint Properties, where he held multiple positions, including Chief Operating Officer, General Counsel and Special Counsel.
Prior to his more than 25 years in real estate, Michael was the Chief Administrative Officer for Discus Dental and served on the Board of Directors for Discus Holdings in the years leading up to its sale to Koninklijke Philips N.V. (NYSE: PHG). Michael earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of California, Davis, a J.D. and an L.L.M in Taxation from Loyola Law School, and his Master of Business Administration from the Anderson School at UCLA.
Senior Vice President of Investments and Commercial Operations
Sandy sources our development and acquisitions opportunities, manages due diligence, and leads project design and construction.He has over 20 years of real estate experience during which he sourced over $1 billion of development projects for residential units and led entitlements for over $1 billion of development. His prior roles included Director of Acquisitions and Development at several national developers. Sandy started his real estate career as an architecture draftsman and builder for Habitat for Humanity. Sandy earned his bachelor’s degree from Trinity College in Hartford, CT, after which he obtained a Master of Business Administration and Master of Real Estate Development degree from the University of Southern California.
Sabina is responsible for overseeing our company’s financial activities. These responsibilities include budgeting, preparing timely quarterly and annual financial reports, and supervising accounting personnel. In addition, she oversees all audit and internal control procedures and oversees our company’s accounting system. Prior to joining our company, Sabina worked at CBRE, Discus Dental, Rexford Industrial, R7 Real Estate, Avison Young, and Dunbar Real Estate. Sabina received an Master in Business Administration from Woodbury University and a Bachelor of Science degree in accountancy from California State University of Long Beach.
Having been with us for several decades, Sonia is responsible for all administration functions including employment planning and new hire orientation, company benefits, payroll, vendor management, IT and systems coordinator, workers’ compensation insurance and COBRA administration. Before joining our team, she worked for CB Commercial and was the COBRA administrator for over 350 people. Sonia holds a Credential in Human Resources Management from California State University, Domiguez Hills.
William helps oversee our capital raising initiatives and is our investors’ main point of contact. He initially joined our company as a multifamily acquisition underwriter where he spent several years underwriting potential multifamily acquisitions. While working as an acquisition analyst, William attended Loyola Marymount Law School from which he graduated with honors. Before rejoining us as Director of Investor Relations, William spent two years working as an mergers and acquisitions corporate associate at a national law firm. In addition to holding a J.D. from Loyola Marymount Law School, William holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of California, Santa Barabara.
Ted’s focus is on the firm’s strategic asset management activities, including property operations, capital improvements, leasing, and marketing, as well as acquisitions and dispositions. Prior to working at our company, Ted worked at Wilshire Capital Partners, Compass Acquisition Partners, Canyon Capital Partners, Maguire Properties, and Capital & Counties, USA. Ted was responsible for acquisitions, asset management, and dispositions. Ted received a Master in Real Estate Development from the University of Southern California, a Master of Urban Planning from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Analysis and Design from the University of California, Irvine.
